Recently I went to Cascade Falls in Giles County, VA. It is lovely any time of the year, but it was especially nice on the very warm day I was there. There are two trails to the falls, but the one that parallels the stream the best.
The hike to the falls is only two miles long, but it can take a photographer several hours to reach her final destination. The trail has an endless number of photograph opportunities.
When you finally reach the falls, you may learn you are not the first to arrive there. On summer days it may be crowded. In other seasons you may find yourself alone.
Alone or surrounded by others, you won’t regret the walk.
Waterfalls
I love waterfalls. When I’m on a trail headed to a waterfall, I am filled with anticipation. I love everything about them; the sounds, the smells, the feel and the sights transport me.
Walking beside the stream, I hear the tinkling and drumming as the water cascades across rocks and stones. I see the magical ripples and the ferns fed by the sparkling water. I smell the moist air and the green all around me. When I reach the falls, I feel the mist caress my skin. I dip my toes in the ripples. The green encompasses me with peace and coolness.
I love waterfalls. I love everything about them, especially on a warm sunny day.
